Introduction
DeFi Land is a free to play game that looks to educate its users through a gamified DeFi Platform. It Integrates existing DeFi protocols within the ecosystem of the game. It is looking to expand to a multi-chain gamified asset management protocol.
High Level Token Summary
$DFL is its governance token in its ecosystem.
Acquire the token by purchasing through a DEX, renting out NFTs, sale of NFTs through the marketplace.
Total amount is capped at 10,000,000.
Main utility will come governance capabilities, staking features, and some in-game usage as it is said to be an input in crafting.
Market Design
The protocol is built on Solana to leverage on low transaction fees and fast processing, but the team looks to implement multi-chain integration in the future. Though multi-chain integration is more for gameplay use, it can also be an avenue for on-chain
Player Archetypes:
Killer: The player type may not be present in its most common form in this game as Killers can be users who are competing against each other in the the leaderboards or when multiplayer land comes out.
Achievers: Achievements are a big part of the protocol. This is one major factor that will drive and attract the Achiever player type into playing the game.
Socialisers: Multiplayer Land, Factions, and referrals are a driving factor for the socializer player type as these features in the protocol promote social interaction within the game.
Miners: Miners can be users looking to continuously play mini games in order to farm and sell the resources that these games produce.
Mechanism Design
DeFi Land is essentially a Decentralized Finance Protocol with a fictional game wrapper around it. There is a free to play route where player can play a mini game to earn XP points and compete on their leaderboards for rewards.
Governance
Decision Making: Centralized to the core team but will eventually open up and form a DAO in the future.
Voting Protocol: There is a structure in the game called the Voting palace where voting on protocol issues and other important decisions can be made.
Implementation: Implementation and smart contract building is centralized to the development team
Building DeFI Equivalents
The buildings located on the Farm itself represents different DeFi protocols that have been gamified:
Farm
Building → DeFi protocols
House → Portfolio
Market → DEX
Seed Lab → LP Provision
Farm → LP Staking
NFTs unlock access to some mini games and idle games These NFTs will eventually need repairs or upgrades over time. Tools are mini games while animals are idle games in the DeFi Land Ecosystem.
NFTs → Mini/Idle Games
Mini game
Fishing Rod, Hunting Gun, Car
Will need repairs
Upgradeable
Idle game
Cows, Chickens
Upgradeable
Token Design
Token Distribution
The biggest chunk (41%) goes to game/staking rewards to infuse the ecosystem with $DFL tokens and incentivize staking. The next biggest chunk (21%) goes to the team and advisors while a similar amount (20%) goes to seed investors.
Token Valuation
Demand will be driven by how lucrative the staking rewards will be, speculation on the future of the game, and the ingame use of the $DFL token as a crafting input.
Risks
Systematic Risk:
It seems to be a large DeFi protocol covered in a farming game fictional wrapper. They have a core gameplay that players will come back playing. The team talked about an adventure mode to tell the lore behind the game, which could be an avenue to help players stay in the ecosystem.
Idiosyncratic Risk:
Mini games are not complex enough to promote user retention. Might attract people only looking to extract value from the ecosystem.
Add a game mode that highlights factions better. Factions seem to be the only social aspect to the game and can easily add complexity to the ecosystem if implemented in a game mode or guild mechanic. Maybe there is a free for all land where factions can own (or have a greater share of the farmable land) by doing certain tasks regularly on that plot.
The goal is to teach users about DeFi protocols but can be hard to do if users are not willing to spend money in the ecosystem. They use an offchain currency that can interact with an offchain version of the DeFi protocols in order to simulate each feature. Trading and crafting feature can be done to a certain extent but not tradeable to any other player to promote conversion to the play to earn side of the game.
Conclusion
DeFi Land is a free to play game that looks to educate its users through a gamified DeFi Platform. $DFL is its governance token in its ecosystem. It has 4 main Player Archetypes. DeFi Land is looking to expand to a multi-chain gamified asset management protocol.
